What is a Faithful Worrier?

Worry can be defined as “giving way to your anxiety; and/or allowing your mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles”. Thus, a worrier is a person who worries too much.  And faith can be defined as “trusting, having confidence and assurance that God will lead you in the right direction”. All in all, a Faithful Worrier – is someone who constantly worries about the unknown and even though they are a Believer, they struggle with keeping faith and the concept of Letting Go and Letting God.

Personally, when I’m facing decisions, I tend to overthink them. Big decisions. Small decisions. And I often find myself going down rabbit holes. What if this happens? What if that happens? What if … What if … What if …

And naturally, I’m a planner. I like to plan out everything. I want to be prepared for any and every scenario. I don’t like to be caught off guard. And I would much rather be OVER prepared than under.

But sometimes … I literally jump off the deep end and I think of all the ways that things can go wrong. And it’s funny, because I always forget to overthink about all the ways that it can go RIGHT. My therapist calls it catastrophizing – when you fixate on the worst possible outcome and treat it as likely, even when it is not.

But I’m learning to fight back my negative thoughts with positive ones. I allow myself to think the negative but with limits. And I actively think positive thoughts! And sometimes I literally say to myself, “Girl you are doing the most!” … “Girl, God DID NOT bring you this far for you to feel less than! You better show these people what you know!”

See THAT right there –> God DID NOT bring you this far …! Baby, one thing I know and two things for certain, that Man up above, He gon bring me (and you) through it every time! Its just in the moment, you give way to the negative and forget that you’re a Child of the King. And even still, what happens? He brings you right on through it. So all that overthinking was really for nothing huh? Yea I know, silly us.

TAKE AWAY: If you are a worrier like me, struggling with faith; and foolishly trying to overthink God’s plan … I encourage you to literally SLOW your thoughts down. Bring yourself back to reality by thinking LOGICALLY. For example:

  1. The situation is [BLANK].
  2. This situation is bad because [BLANK] & the worse case scenario is [BLANK].
  3. If the worse case scenario really does happen, then what happens?
  4. Therefore, I need to do [BLANK], to avoid [BLANK].
  5. Is there more that I can do to get the outcome that I desire?
  6. Most of all, what is God telling me about [BLANK]?
  7. Ask God to guide you in the direction of the purpose He has planned for you.

Then hold your head high and get to it, and BELIEVE!!! Because …

You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!
